HGV Driver – Waste Collection & Transport

About the role

The role involves delivering high‑quality waste collection and transportation services from Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill Household Waste Recycling Centres. You will operate safely and efficiently to support a cleaner, greener city.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a range of vehicles including skip vehicles, hook loaders and articulated vehicles with trailers.
• Collect, transport and dispose of waste materials on‑site and off‑site to designated disposal points.
• Maintain accurate load records and ensure compliance with weight, measures and Environment Agency regulations.
• Perform daily vehicle checks, report defects and keep the digital tachograph and CPC qualification up to date.
• Follow Operator (O) Licence requirements, driving regulations and Working Time Directive rules.
• Deliver high productivity, quality and operational efficiency.
• Provide professional customer service to the public and stakeholders.
• Support environmental objectives by promoting safe and sustainable waste handling practices.

Required profile

• Valid LGV/HGV driving licence appropriate to the vehicle type.
• CPC qualification and a digital tachograph card.
• Strong knowledge of driving regulations and Working Time Directive rules.
• Good health and safety awareness.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, flexible and able to cope with physically demanding work.
• Availability for a four‑on‑four‑off rota with 10.5‑hour days.
