HGV Technician Lead

About the role

This is a hands‑on, senior technical position leading the workshop for a well‑established drainage and wastewater services provider in the South West. You will be the most senior HGV Technician, working alongside one fitter and reporting to the Transport Manager, ensuring the specialist fleet remains reliable and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on a mixed fleet of tankers, HGVs and vans.
• Plan and execute MOT preparation, six‑weekly inspections and scheduled maintenance.
• Lead reactive repairs to minimise vehicle downtime.
• Oversee and support one HGV Technician, maintaining workshop standards.
• Maintain accurate compliance records, including inspections, defect rectification and parts usage.
• Coordinate daily workload with the Transport Manager and Operations team.
• Manage parts ordering, stock control and workshop housekeeping.
• Provide shift coverage and respond to breakdowns as required.
• Assist with LOLER and PAT inspections and ensure full DVSA, transport legislation and SHEQ compliance.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in HGV maintenance, or solid time‑served experience.
• IRTEC accreditation is advantageous.
• Proven hands‑on experience with tanker vehicles; jetting or vacuum equipment experience is a strong advantage.
• Class 2 HGV licence with a clean driving record.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as an HGV Technician.
