High Needs Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEN School

About the role

This full‑time position supports a large secondary special‑needs school in Lewisham. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide both classroom assistance and one‑to‑one support for pupils with high needs, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), challenging behaviour and profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering lessons and managing the classroom environment.
• Provide dedicated one‑to‑one support for pupils with complex needs.
• Help implement behaviour‑management strategies and promote positive outcomes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support pupils outside the classroom.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and incidents.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children who have special educational needs (SEN) or complex needs.
• Resilient, patient, adaptable and enthusiastic.
• Confident in managing challenging behaviour and supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH, SLD, MLD and PMLD.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Experience supporting students with ASD, PMLD, SEMH, SLD and MLD.
• Ability to deliver one‑to‑one and group support effectively.
• Competence in applying behaviour‑management techniques.
