Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming primary school in Wigan. The role starts in September and is full‑time, initially on a temporary basis with strong potential to become permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
• Cover classes independently to support teachers’ PPA time or short‑term absences.
• Manage classroom behaviour to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
• Adapt quickly to different year groups as required.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants and class teachers, providing feedback on pupil progress.

Required profile

• Confident classroom presence with excellent behaviour management.
• Flexible, resilient and a positive “can‑do” attitude.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with pupils and staff.
• Commitment to supporting children of all learning abilities.
• Formal HLTA qualification or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Legal right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo Enhanced DBS checks.
