Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Part‑time (Tue & Wed)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support teaching and learning across a primary school in Preston. The role is part‑time, working on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a one‑hour unpaid lunch break. You will work closely with teachers to deliver planned activities and provide classroom cover when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver planned learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes.
• Provide high‑quality classroom cover in the absence of the class teacher.
• Support pupils of varying abilities to access the curriculum and achieve learning goals.
• Assist teachers with planning, preparation and delivery of lessons.
• Monitor, assess and record pupil progress, giving feedback where appropriate.
• Deliver targeted interventions to support pupil attainment and development.
• Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, support staff and school leaders.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or significant experience working at HLTA level.
• Experience supporting teaching and learning within a primary school setting.
• Confidence in leading whole‑class activities and managing classroom behaviour independently.
• Strong literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
• Ability to work using initiative and adapt to the needs of different classes and pupils.
• Professional, reliable and flexible approach.
