Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Primary School

About the role

A thriving primary school in Havering is seeking an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join the team from September. The role involves supporting pupils across Reception to Year 6, delivering targeted interventions and ensuring inclusive learning experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality classroom cover across Reception to Year 6 using established lesson plans.
• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group support to raise attainment and confidence.
• Assist teachers in creating engaging and effective learning experiences.
• Adapt activities to meet the needs of pupils with differing abilities and backgrounds.
• Promote positive behaviour and a nurturing atmosphere for learning.
• Track pupil progress and share feedback with teaching staff.
• Take an active role in the wider life of the school.

Required profile

• Holds HLTA status or has significant experience in a comparable role.
• Experience leading learning within a primary school setting.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
• Adaptable, proactive and eager to work across different year groups.
• Genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.

Required skills

• HLTA qualification (or equivalent).
