Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Primary School

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join an inclusive primary school in Liverpool. The role involves delivering Preparation, Planning and Assessment (PPA) cover and supporting whole‑class teaching across all year groups.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and co‑plan lessons with class teachers, adapting content to meet pupil needs.
• Teach whole classes as part of the PPA timetable and provide short‑term cover for any age group.
• Provide verbal and written feedback on lesson delivery, pupil progress and behaviour.
• Motivate and support pupils’ learning in line with school policies.
• Organise and manage a safe, resource‑rich learning environment.
• Assess pupil responses and modify teaching methods for individual or group needs.
• Promote inclusion of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
• Apply positive behaviour management strategies to foster a purposeful learning atmosphere.
• Supply progress information to parents, carers, teachers and senior leaders as required.

Required profile

• Qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status.
• Experience working in a primary school setting.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with senior leadership and class teachers.
• Strong commitment to inclusive education and pupil achievement.
