Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEND School

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEND school in Bredbury (SK6). The role is full‑time, long‑term with the possibility of becoming permanent, supporting pupils aged 11‑16 with a range of additional needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons confidently when teachers are absent.
• Support teaching and learning across all subjects.
• Lead small‑group interventions and targeted support sessions.
• Cover classes and adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Promote emotional regulation, communication and independence skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff, therapists and external professionals.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
• Uphold safeguarding policies at all times.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an HLTA or in a similar classroom leadership role.
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
• Confident, compassionate and able to build positive relationships.
• Ability to adapt resources and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Required skills

• Lesson delivery and classroom management.
• Small‑group intervention planning.
• Adaptation of learning resources for diverse needs.
• Effective communication with pupils, staff and external partners.
