Higher Level Teaching Assistant – KS2 – Tower Hamlets

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming primary school in Tower Hamlets. The role starts in September 2026 and runs until July 2027, supporting Key Stage 2 pupils and helping children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to thrive academically and socially.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver targeted small‑group and one‑to‑one interventions across KS2.
• Support pupils with SEMH needs using positive behaviour management strategies.
• Provide Maths and English interventions to raise attainment.
• Cover whole‑class teaching when teachers are absent.
• Collaborate with teachers to plan engaging learning activities.
• Monitor pupil progress and give feedback to teaching staff.
• Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Experienced HLTA or highly experienced Teaching Assistant with primary school background.
• Proven experience supporting KS2 pupils, especially those with SEMH needs.
• Confidence delivering interventions and leading whole‑class sessions when required.
• Excellent communication, organisational and behaviour‑management skills.
• HLTA status or equivalent experience is desirable.

Required skills

• Knowledge of KS2 curriculum in Maths and English.
• Behaviour‑management techniques for SEMH pupils.
• Ability to design and deliver targeted interventions.
