Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Part‑time, Thu‑Fri)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our primary school team in Preston on a part‑time, Thursday‑Friday basis. The role involves delivering lessons, providing class cover and supporting pupils across the curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver lessons and learning activities to whole classes, small groups and individual pupils.
• Provide seamless class cover in the teacher’s absence, ensuring continuity of learning.
• Support pupils to make progress and achieve individual targets across the curriculum.
• Collaborate with teachers to plan, prepare and evaluate learning activities.
• Assess, monitor and record pupil progress, giving feedback to teaching staff.
• Deliver intervention programmes for academic, social and emotional development.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and external professionals.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or substantial experience working at HLTA level.
• Experience in a primary school setting.
• Confidence in managing a classroom and delivering lessons independently.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• Excellent communication, literacy and numeracy.
• Flexible, proactive and professional attitude.
