Higher Level Teaching Assistant – PE or Music

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a specialism in Physical Education or Music to join a welcoming primary school in Croydon. This full‑time, temporary position offers the chance to deliver engaging lessons, support teachers and make a positive impact on pupils' development.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high‑quality PE or Music sessions for primary‑aged pupils.
• Assist teachers in preparing and executing engaging lesson plans.
• Lead whole‑class learning and provide cover when required.
• Work with small groups or individual pupils to support progress and attainment.
• Organise school performances, assemblies, clubs, sporting events and enrichment activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a primary school setting.
• HLTA status or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
• Relevant qualification, background or significant experience in PE, sports coaching, music or performing arts.
• Strong understanding of child development in a primary context.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Positive, energetic and adaptable approach.
• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

• Subject‑specific expertise in Physical Education or Music.
