Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Primary) – Part‑time

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Preston on a part‑time, temporary basis. The role runs three days a week – Monday to Wednesday – from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with a one‑hour unpaid lunch break. You will work closely with teachers to support learning and provide cover when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes under teacher direction.
• Provide planned class cover in the teacher’s absence.
• Support pupils to reach academic, social and emotional goals.
• Collaborate with teachers to plan, prepare and evaluate learning tasks.
• Assist in assessing, monitoring and recording pupil progress.
• Help implement intervention programmes and targeted support.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive environment.
• Contribute to wider school life and adhere to policies and procedures.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or substantial experience at HLTA level.
• Proven experience supporting teaching and learning in a primary setting.
• Confidence in leading whole‑class learning and managing behaviour.
• Strong literacy, numeracy and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently, use initiative and build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Flexible, adaptable and reliable.
