Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools (Southampton)

About the role

Teaching Personnel is looking for enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to support primary schools across Southampton and Totton. You will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to enhance learning for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons when the class teacher is absent.
• Lead small‑group interventions across core curriculum subjects.
• Provide tailored support for pupils with additional needs, including SEN.
• Assist with lesson planning, assessment and tracking pupil progress.
• Promote positive behaviour and foster an inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to boost pupil achievement.

Required profile

• Recognised HLTA Level 4 qualification.
• Previous experience in a primary school setting.
• Confidence in leading whole‑class learning and managing classroom behaviour.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, positive attitude and genuine passion for education.
• Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
