Higher Level Teaching Assistant – September Start

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join an inspirational SEND school in Houghton-le‑Spring. The role starts in September 2026 and runs full‑time until July 2027, supporting pupils aged 12‑13 who are working at EYFS/KS1 level.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with a wide range of SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, SLD and MLD.
• Plan and deliver EYFS curriculum activities tailored to individual learning needs.
• Differentiate learning tasks to suit varied abilities, ages and communication levels.
• Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to develop effective learning strategies.
• Offer personal care where required and support non‑verbal or pre‑verbal pupils.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification.
• Experience working with children in UK schools, preferably in a SEND setting.
• Proven ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Genuine passion for supporting SEND learners.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Required skills

• Knowledge of the EYFS curriculum.
• Ability to differentiate learning activities for diverse needs.
• Understanding of various SEND categories and associated strategies.
• Personal care skills where needed.

What we offer

• Daily rate between £95 and £120, dependent on experience.
• Full‑time fixed‑term contract until July 2027.
