Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

About the role

Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking an experienced and innovative Occupational Therapist to influence whole‑system practice and lead SEND developments. This role does not involve a traditional caseload but focuses on strategic projects, workforce development and system‑wide approaches that improve outcomes for children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver school‑based provision, including sensory audits, sensory space design, and fine and gross motor support.
• Lead and supervise a team of Occupational Therapy Assistants.
• Monitor service impact and contribute to continuous service development.
• Provide OT expertise and consultation on local authority capital projects to ensure inclusive, accessible environments.
• Build collaborative relationships with NHS OT services and wider partners to align efforts and avoid duplication.

Required profile

• Qualified Occupational Therapist with extensive experience in SEND.
• Impact‑driven professional able to work without a traditional caseload.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage strategic projects.
• Strong understanding of local authority and education‑health partnership contexts.
