Home to School Passenger Assistant (Part‑time)

About the role

The Home to School Passenger Assistant role supports children and young people with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) during their daily travel to schools and colleges in the Wigan borough. Working split‑shift hours, you will be collected by a taxi service for morning and afternoon journeys and ensure each passenger arrives calm, settled and ready to learn. This statutory service is essential for the safety, comfort and wellbeing of the children.

Key responsibilities

• Support children and young people with SEND during school pick‑up and drop‑off journeys.
• Ensure safety, comfort and wellbeing of passengers while travelling to schools and colleges.
• Travel to designated pick‑up points and coordinate with the taxi service for morning and afternoon shifts.
• Provide a calm and settled environment so passengers arrive ready to learn.

Required profile

• Ability to work split‑shift hours (7:30‑10:00 and 14:30‑16:00) for 20 hours per week.
• Willingness to follow safe recruitment practices and support the statutory transport service.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £13.26.
• Mileage reimbursement for travel to distant pick‑up points.
