Homeless Officer – Council Contract (Hybrid)

About the role

Join the London Borough of Hillingdon as a Homeless Officer on a hybrid contract basis. You will manage a caseload of homelessness and housing advice cases, working both from the office and remotely to support vulnerable households.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of homelessness applications from initial contact to resolution.
• Conduct detailed assessments of housing circumstances, eligibility, priority need, intentional homelessness and local connection.
• Issue statutory decisions and notifications within required timescales.
• Develop personalised housing plans and take reasonable steps to prevent or relieve homelessness.
• Provide comprehensive housing advice and explore all available accommodation options.
• Make referrals to internal and external services for holistic support.
• Liaise with landlords, letting agents, housing associations and partner organisations to secure suitable accommodation.
• Ensure compliance with the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and council policies.

Required profile

• Demonstrable experience working within a local authority homelessness or housing options service.
• Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related guidance.
• Ability to manage a full caseload and meet statutory deadlines.
