Homelessness Prevention & Solutions Support Officer

About the role

This temporary position supports the London Borough of Harrow’s Housing Team by delivering essential homelessness prevention services. You will work from the Harrow Civic Centre, providing accurate guidance and compassionate assistance to residents in need.

Key responsibilities

• Register new applicants on housing databases and maintain accurate documentation.
• Serve as the first telephone contact for individuals seeking housing advice, directing them to appropriate services.
• Schedule appointments for Homelessness Prevention & Solutions Support Officers, including out‑of‑hours visits when required.
• Notify clients promptly of any appointment changes and arrange suitable alternatives.
• Handle challenging situations calmly, supporting distressed or upset clients.
• Manage complaints and provide initial advice on housing or homelessness applications.

Required profile

• Experience dealing with the public daily, both over the phone and face‑to‑face, in a customer‑focused environment.
• Background in housing or related office work handling varied tasks.
• Strong written communication skills, able to produce clear and concise information.

• Hourly rate of £16.71 (PAYE).
• 36‑hour work week, Monday to Friday.
• Office‑based role at Harrow Civic Centre.
• Temporary contract until March 2027.
