Household Planning Officer

About the role

The Household Planning Officer will support Bolton Council's Development Management Team by assessing and managing householder and minor planning applications. This temporary, hybrid role offers a varied workload and the chance to influence local development decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, review, negotiate and recommend outcomes for householder and minor planning applications.
• Evaluate planning enquiries, appeals and related development proposals.
• Maintain accurate case files and planning records.
• Provide advice on planning applications, enforcement matters and related issues.
• Support senior planning officers in preparing guidance documents, development briefs and supplementary planning documents.
• Contribute to service priorities, performance targets and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote the use of ICT systems and mobile working solutions to improve service delivery.
• Develop effective relationships with internal departments, elected members, customers and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Experience in a planning, development management or local government environment.
• Knowledge of planning legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Strong report‑writing and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload of 30‑50 cases and meet deadlines.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
• Flexible, collaborative approach and a valid UK driving licence.
