Housing Advisor

About the role

The Housing Advisor will work within the Supported Housing Commissioning Team to identify and support rough sleepers in need of housing assessments. The role focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act and related guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake assessments and investigations of homeless applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Provide front‑of‑house advice to rough sleepers, directing priority and non‑priority cases appropriately.
• Collaborate with outreach teams, day centres, supported housing schemes and emergency accommodation providers to locate individuals requiring housing needs assessments.
• Develop tailored housing plans and negotiate extensions of stay where necessary.
• Manage a complex caseload, offering advice, advocacy, negotiation and mediation to prevent or relieve homelessness.
• Inform clients of assessment outcomes when prevention is not possible.

Required profile

• Experience assessing homeless applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Proven ability to work with rough sleepers and deliver innovative, tailored solutions.
• Experience collaborating with outreach teams and partner organisations.
• Strong knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act, associated codes of guidance and best practice.
