Housing Law Director

About the role

Our client, a top‑tier law firm recognised by The Legal 500 and Chambers, is seeking a Housing Law Director to lead its Housing Litigation team in the City of London. This senior, permanent position offers the opportunity to shape strategy, supervise a multidisciplinary team and handle high‑profile housing disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Report directly to the Board and ensure departmental performance targets are achieved.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance across all housing matters, including disrepair, eviction, possession, homelessness and judicial review.
• Lead and supervise solicitors, trainee solicitors and caseworkers, managing caseloads of varying complexity.
• Oversee delivery of training and professional development within the department.
• Handle emergency cases, strategic litigation and represent clients in court under the Housing Court Duty Scheme.
• Prepare and manage Legal Aid funding applications and draft court documents such as witness statements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in housing litigation, with recent work on the Housing Court Duty Scheme.
• Proven ability to manage and develop a legal team.
• Strong advocacy skills and experience in both courtroom and alternative dispute resolution settings.
• Excellent organisational and case‑management capabilities.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of housing law, including disrepair, eviction, possession, homelessness and judicial review.
• Experience preparing Legal Aid applications and drafting court documents.
• Familiarity with the Housing Court Duty Scheme and related procedural rules.
