Housing Processing Officer – Private Housing Services

About the role

The Local Authority’s Private Housing Services (PHS) team needs five temporary Processing Officers to clear a backlog of around 1,600 private property licence applications before a major system migration. The role is full‑time (36 hours per week) on a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of three days in the Wembley office.

Key responsibilities

• Process private property licence applications accurately and efficiently.
• Support administration of Brent’s private property licensing schemes.
• Maintain and update licensing databases and records.
• Respond to enquiries from landlords, tenants and other stakeholders.
• Provide advice on licensing requirements and draft correspondence.
• Carry out data entry and management activities with a focus on confidentiality.
• Assist with statutory, technical and administrative functions within Private Housing Services.
• Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to meet service objectives.
• Support enforcement and licensing activities as required.

Required profile

• Minimum secondary education with a good standard of literacy and numeracy.
• Ability to work within the framework of the Housing Act 2004 and related legislation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
• Good communication skills for interacting with landlords, tenants and stakeholders.
