HR Advisor – 12‑month contract (SC cleared)

About the role

We are looking for an HR Advisor to provide first‑ and second‑line HR support for a Government client in Salisbury. The role is a 12‑month contract, office‑based three days a week with the remainder remote, and requires SC clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1st line HR support on routine queries about policies, leave, payroll and benefits.
• Deliver 2nd line assistance for complex HR issues, escalating where necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of queries, advice given and resolutions.
• Prepare HR reports, management information and metrics for senior decision‑making.
• Support recruitment activities, including drafting job descriptions, coordinating interviews and onboarding.
• Assist Learning & Development processes, handling requests, monitoring budgets and reporting.
• Contribute to employee engagement initiatives to improve the overall experience.
• Ensure all HR activities comply with legislation, data‑protection requirements and organisational policies.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of HR policies, procedures and the ability to provide effective 1st and 2nd line support.
• Working knowledge of employment law, data protection and HR compliance.
• Familiarity with Civil Service HR frameworks and public‑sector practices.
• Experience using HR information systems to manage employee records and queries.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain policies clearly.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
