HR and Payroll Officer

About the role

We are seeking an HR and Payroll Officer to join a multi‑academy trust in London. The role is a fixed‑term, full‑time position focused on accurate payroll processing and supporting day‑to‑day HR operations within the not‑for‑profit sector.

Key responsibilities

• Process payroll each cycle, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational requirements.
• Maintain and update employee records, including contracts, benefits, and leave balances.
• Assist recruitment from drafting job descriptions to onboarding new hires.
• Coordinate training and development programmes aligned with organisational needs.
• Provide guidance on HR policies and procedures to staff and managers.
• Support employee‑relations queries and investigations.
• Prepare reports and documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
• Work closely with the finance team to align payroll budgets with forecasts.

Required profile

• Experience in payroll processing and HR administration within a professional environment.
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
• Excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Effective communication skills for liaising with employees and management.
