HR Manager – Lead People Strategy in Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead and develop the HR function for a top‑100 UK accountancy and business advisory firm. You will support employees and managers across the business, ensuring best practice and legal compliance while driving the people strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on UK employment law and HR best practice.
• Manage employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
• Lead recruitment processes and support onboarding of new staff.
• Oversee performance management, appraisals and learning & development initiatives.
• Review, update and improve HR policies, procedures and processes.
• Handle payroll submissions and maintain accurate HR records.
• Support employee engagement, wellbeing and retention programmes.
• Build strong relationships with managers, employees and external partners.
• Lead and develop the HR team while aligning with wider business objectives.

Required profile

• CIPD qualified or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of HR experience, including at least 2 years at HR Manager level.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law.
• Previous experience in a commercial or professional services environment.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Commercially minded with a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
