HR & Payroll Manager – Manufacturing (Truro)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR & Payroll Manager to join a well‑established, family‑owned manufacturing business near Truro. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own the HR function and oversee the monthly payroll process, working closely with an external payroll bureau.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day‑to‑day HR function, providing advice and support to managers and employees.
• Manage the monthly payroll process, checking timesheets and payroll data before submission to the external provider.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and employee retention initiatives.
• Advise managers on employee‑relations matters and promote HR best practice.
• Drive employee engagement, training and development programmes.
• Ensure HR policies and procedures remain compliant with employment legislation.
• Collaborate with the Finance Director and senior management to align HR activities with business objectives.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a generalist HR role with responsibility for employee relations.
• Experience overseeing payroll administration for a workforce of 50+ employees.
• Strong knowledge of HR best practice and UK employment legislation.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Proactive, organised and approachable style.
• Experience in manufacturing, engineering or a similar industrial environment is advantageous.
• CIPD qualification beneficial but not essential.
