Human Resources Officer

About the role

The Human Resources Officer will work full‑time on‑site in Stoke‑On‑Trent, supporting staff and leaders across the school and wider Trust. The role combines day‑to‑day HR administration with recruitment coordination and employee relations to help create an inclusive, high‑performing workplace.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, onboarding and leaver processes while ensuring compliance with Trust policies and employment legislation.
• Coordinate recruitment activities, including safer recruitment checks, advertising, shortlisting and interview arrangements.
• Provide first‑line advice on HR policies, absence management, performance and employee relations, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Produce HR reports, maintain HR systems and support staff development initiatives.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive culture across the Trust.

Required profile

• Strong HR administration experience with attention to confidentiality and detail.
• Knowledge of core HR practices such as recruitment, onboarding, absence and performance management.
• Understanding of employment law and ability to apply Trust policies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building trusted relationships.
• High organisational ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Experience in education, public sector or multi‑site environments is an advantage.
• Commitment to equity, safeguarding and inclusive practices aligned with the Trust’s values.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience using HR information systems or payroll software.
