Humanities & PSHE Teacher – Support SEND & SEMH Learners

About the role
This full‑time position is for a passionate Humanities and PSHE Teacher in a specialist setting in Colchester. You will work with children and young people who have additional needs, including SEND, SEMH, and those who have experienced trauma. The role combines classroom teaching with pastoral support to help pupils thrive academically and personally.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Humanities and PSHE lessons.
- Support pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs.
- Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress.
- Act as a Form Tutor and main point of contact for families.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews, pastoral support plans and progress reports.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- Collaborate with parents, external agencies and school staff.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection.
- Participate in wider curriculum and enrichment activities as needed.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching Humanities and/or PSHE.
- Strong understanding of SEND and inclusive practice.
- Excellent behaviour management and relationship‑building skills.
- Resilient, adaptable and nurturing approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
- Passion for supporting vulnerable learners; experience in SEMH or specialist settings is advantageous.
