Imaging Assistant

About the role

The Imaging Assistant will join the Medical Imaging Department at University Hospital Crosshouse/University Hospital Ayr, supporting radiologists and radiographers in delivering high‑quality patient care. This is a full‑time, 36‑hour per week position offering a clear progression from Band 2 to Band 3 upon successful completion of the competency framework.

Key responsibilities

• Assist radiologists and radiographers with all aspects of patient care, including patient monitoring and intravenous cannulation after training.
• Perform administrative and computing tasks related to imaging services.
• Participate in departmental audit activities and contribute to continuous professional development initiatives.
• Provide 24/7 service coverage, working out‑of‑hours and weekends as rostered.
• Support the service and staff in maintaining the highest standards of imaging.

Required profile

• Commitment to personal development and ability to work in a demanding, physically and mentally challenging environment.
• General knowledge of imaging department operations; experience in an X‑ray setting is advantageous.
• Experience in a caring role, with the ability to interact compassionately with seriously ill patients.
• Flexible approach and awareness of health and safety issues.

Required skills

• SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
• Good computing skills for administrative duties.
• Ability to perform intravenous cannulation after appropriate training.
