Import Operations Clerk

About the role

We are looking for an Import Operations Clerk to join a fast‑growing freight provider in Basildon. The successful candidate will manage the end‑to‑end import process, ensuring shipments are released on time and profitability is maximised.

Key responsibilities

• Handle the import workflow from pre‑alert through to release using the company’s in‑house system.
• Issue invoices to UK importers before arrival of shipments.
• Enter cost estimates in the correct accounting month and verify purchase invoices.
• Process correct invoices for payment and raise disputes when necessary.
• Close files after confirming all charges and costs to achieve maximum profitability.
• Obtain carrier exchange rates and update the system accordingly.
• Book deliveries with hauliers and monitor any port health holds.
• Manage email communications with customers, hauliers and warehouses, and forward clearance instructions promptly.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an import department of a shipping or freight company.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Good numeracy skills for cost and invoice verification.
• Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
