In-House Contentious Construction Solicitor

About the role
This six‑month fixed‑term position offers an experienced solicitor the chance to lead legal strategy for a major housing organisation in Birmingham. You will advise on complex building remediation, construction disputes and cost recovery, protecting the organisation’s financial, regulatory and reputational interests.
Key responsibilities
- Lead legal strategy for building remediation, construction defect and cost recovery claims involving developers, contractors, insurers and warranty providers.
- Advise on Building Safety Act 2022 obligations, leaseholder protections, remediation liabilities and landlord duties.
- Investigate potential claims by reviewing contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties and technical evidence.
- Manage contentious and pre‑contentious matters, including professional negligence, latent defects, mediation, settlement negotiations and court proceedings.
- Instruct and oversee external solicitors, counsel and technical experts, ensuring proportionate and commercially focused litigation strategy.
Required profile
- Qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX lawyer with substantial experience in contentious construction, commercial litigation or property disputes.
- Proven track record advising on building defects, remediation claims, professional negligence and contractual liability.
- Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with recovery mechanisms such as latent defects insurance, NHBC Buildmark, Premier Guarantee, LABC Warranty or similar.
- Ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice and work collaboratively within a forward‑thinking team.
