Inclusion Lead (Maternity Cover) - Whole-School SEND Leadership

About the role

Coundon Primary School is looking for an experienced SENCo to act as Inclusion Lead for a one-year maternity cover, from 18 January 2027 to 14 January 2028. The role goes beyond a SENCo position: it takes strategic responsibility for Inclusion across the whole school, working with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team so that provision is ambitious, responsive and rooted in high-quality teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for SEND and Inclusion across the school
• Lead and develop the Inclusion team, making sure expertise and resources are used effectively
• Work with teachers to strengthen adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice
• Oversee SEND identification, assessment, provision, intervention and review
• Lead statutory SEND processes, including EHCP provision, reviews and liaison with external professionals
• Use data, pupil progress, provision monitoring and pupil voice to evaluate impact
• Work sensitively with parents and carers, and build relationships with external agencies
• Contribute to whole-school leadership, improvement planning and evaluation
• Keep up with national SEND reform and translate it into practice at the school

Required profile

• An experienced SENCo ready to broaden leadership experience and move toward a more senior leadership role
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, statutory responsibilities, EHCP processes and effective provision
• Exceptionally organised, able to manage competing priorities, statutory deadlines, documentation and complex caseloads
• Able to lead people and build the capacity of teachers, teaching assistants and the Inclusion team
• Nurturing and child-centred, with ambitious expectations
• Strategic thinker who evaluates impact and contributes to school improvement

The role is full time, fixed term, with a salary band of LD 1-5. Visits to the school are welcome. The closing date is 29 November 2026, with interviews on 8 December 2026. Candidates must complete an enhanced DBS check, safeguarding and pre-employment clearances and provide two satisfactory references.
