Inclusive Practice Mentor – Support Learners with SEND

About the role
New College Swindon is expanding its Inclusive Learning team and seeks dedicated mentors to support learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will provide personalised assistance that promotes independence, confidence and academic success across a range of specialisms.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group support tailored to individual SEND needs.
- Conduct initial needs assessments and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Collaborate with teachers, curriculum teams, employers and external agencies to create inclusive learning environments.
- Monitor learner progress, maintain accurate records and adjust support as required.
- Advise staff on reasonable adjustments and inclusive practice.
- Promote wellbeing, self‑advocacy and confidence throughout the learner’s journey.
- Contribute to the continuous development of inclusive practice across the college.
Required profile
- Experience supporting young people or adults with SEND, learning difficulties or additional needs.
- Good understanding of inclusive practice and barriers to learning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational abilities and capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of EHCPs or willingness to develop this knowledge.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or willingness to achieve Level 2).
