Individual Support Assistant – 1:1 Support for Child with Additional Needs

About the role

A welcoming primary school in Gloucester is looking for a caring Individual Support Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a pupil with additional needs. You will help the child thrive academically, socially and emotionally within an inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored 1:1 support aligned with the child’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
• Assist with communication strategies, including BSL, Makaton or other AAC methods where relevant.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to adapt learning activities.
• Encourage independence while providing reassurance and guidance.
• Monitor progress and share insights with the school team and parents.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom and follow safeguarding policies.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
• Ability to work full‑time (8:30 am – 3:30 pm) in a school setting.
