Individual Support Assistant – Gloucester

About the role

A welcoming primary school in Gloucester is looking for a caring Individual Support Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a pupil with additional needs. This full‑time temporary position offers the chance to make a real difference in a child’s academic, social and emotional development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored 1:1 support aligned with the pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
• Assist with communication strategies, including BSL, Makaton or other AAC methods (not essential).
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to adapt learning activities.
• Encourage independence while providing reassurance and guidance.
• Monitor progress, record insights and share updates with the school team and parents.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and follow safeguarding policies.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic, caring and committed to supporting children with additional needs.
• Willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS check.
• Availability to work full‑time (8:30 am – 3:30 pm) on an ASAP start date.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of communication aids such as BSL, Makaton or other AAC methods (optional).
