Individual Support Assistant – Primary School (Gloucester)

About the role

A welcoming primary school in Gloucester is seeking a caring Individual Support Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a pupil with additional needs, helping them thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs, assisting academic, social and emotional development.
• Assist with communication strategies, including BSL, Makaton or other AAC methods (not essential).
• Implement individual learning strategies aligned with the pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to adapt learning activities.
• Encourage independence while offering reassurance and guidance.
• Monitor progress and share insights with the school team and parents.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and follow safeguarding policies.

Required profile

• Passion for supporting children with additional needs.
• Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
• Ability to work full‑time (8:30 am – 3:30 pm) in a primary school setting.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
