Information Governance Officer

About the role

The Information Governance Officer will join the Information Governance Team within the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. You will play a central part in protecting patient and research participant data, ensuring compliance with UK data protection legislation and supporting the department’s research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide guidance and support on information governance to research teams and individual staff.
• Track, manage and report data breaches and Data Transfer Authorisation Requests.
• Deliver and maintain information governance training, including data protection by design assessments.
• Assist the Senior Information Governance Manager with the annual NHSE Data Security Protection Toolkit certification and bi‑annual policy reviews.
• Maintain the department’s IG SharePoint site and intranet page, keeping content accurate and up‑to‑date.
• Act as deputy secretary for the Information Governance Committee meetings.

Required profile

• A degree or equivalent experience with strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
• Good knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act, PECR and related regulatory standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail, ability to work methodically and under pressure.
• Proactive attitude with the capacity to work independently.
