Information Governance Officer – Temporary (Hybrid)

About the role

We are looking for a proactive, detail‑oriented Information Governance Officer to support a local authority on a temporary basis. Working closely with the Information Governance Manager, you will help ensure compliance with UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation, and the Council’s Transparency Code.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Information Governance Manager with day‑to‑day governance activities.
• Monitor and update the Council’s Transparency Code information on the public website.
• Provide basic information‑governance advice to colleagues across the organisation.
• Liaise with internal departments, external bodies and the ICO.
• Support the preparation, monitoring and tracking of data‑protection and GDPR requests.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation, meeting statutory deadlines.

Required profile

• Previous administrative experience in an office environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection or Information Governance is a plus, but not essential.

What we offer

• Hybrid working – one day per week in the Reading office.
• Full‑time (37 hours per week) temporary contract.
• Hourly rate of £14.59, visible in the posting.
