Infrastructure Engineer – Banking/Financial Services

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with a background in banking or financial services to join an established financial organisation in London. The role combines hands‑on engineering with ownership of critical infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security and continuous improvement of the technology estate.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Windows Server and Linux environments to maintain high availability.
• Support and optimise VMware virtual infrastructure across production systems.
• Maintain backup, recovery and disaster‑recovery solutions.
• Monitor performance, capacity and resilience, resolving issues proactively.
• Administer Microsoft 365 and hybrid infrastructure services.
• Oversee Active Directory, Group Policy, identity and access management.
• Provide desktop, laptop and mobile device support across multiple sites.
• Implement endpoint security controls, encryption and vulnerability remediation.
• Collaborate with cyber‑security teams to harden infrastructure.
• Drive patch management and software deployment for servers and desktops.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and networking problems as a senior escalation point.
• Contribute to technology refresh programmes and strategic improvement projects.
• Produce technical documentation, operational procedures and standards.
• Liaise with third‑party suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver stable services.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a financial services or banking environment.
• Strong background in Windows Server, Linux and VMware administration.
• Hands‑on experience with backup, disaster recovery and endpoint security.
• Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills in a regulated, high‑availability setting.
