Infrastructure Engineer – Linux & Datacenter (Slough)

About the role

smartTrade Technologies is looking for a hands‑on Infrastructure Engineer to own and operate its Slough (Equinix) platform environment. You will work in a 24x7, market‑facing setting, collaborating with engineering, network and security teams to keep the private cloud reliable and performant.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and continuously improve Ubuntu Linux fleets in production.
• Manage bare‑metal HPC servers and LXD/LXC container platforms.
• Provide Level‑3 incident response for systems, containers, network paths and storage, meeting SLA targets.
• Own datacenter operations: rack/stack, cabling, optics, power planning, server installation, OOB console management, inventory (Netbox), RMA logistics and vendor coordination.
• Perform day‑2 network tasks on switches and firewalls (VLANs, LACP, ACLs, basic routing) and work closely with network engineering for change implementation.
• Automate configuration and infrastructure as code using Ansible, Chef, Terraform and scripting (Bash/Python).
• Develop reliable tooling for repeatable operations, pre‑change checks and deployments.

Required profile

• Strong experience with Linux system administration (Ubuntu) in production environments.
• Hands‑on knowledge of container technologies, especially LXD/LXC and basic Docker.
• Familiarity with datacenter hardware (Dell, HPE, Supermicro) and storage solutions (LVM, mdadm, RAID controllers).
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (VLANs, LACP, ACLs, routing basics) and experience with vendors such as Arista, Juniper or VyOS.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex incidents and drive post‑mortems.
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Chef, Terraform) and scripting in Bash or Python.
