Infrastructure Engineer – VMware Horizon / VDI

About the role

Richmond Square Consulting Ltd is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to design, support and secure a large‑scale VMware Horizon/VDI environment for highly regulated UK customers. The role focuses on owning the Horizon infrastructure, thin‑client estates and managed Windows endpoints.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Omnissa/VMware Horizon VDI, Connection Servers, Unified Access Gateway, Instant Clones, App Volumes and Dynamic Environment Manager.
• Oversee desktop pool and image lifecycle, VMware vSphere/ESXi hosts and thin‑client estates across multiple UK sites.
• Handle Windows endpoint/laptop management, Active Directory and Group Policy administration.
• Perform patching, hardening, vulnerability remediation and infrastructure monitoring.
• Implement security controls in highly regulated environments and collaborate with networking and security teams.
• Develop automation and scripting solutions where appropriate.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience with VMware/Omnissa Horizon enterprise VDI environments.
• Proficiency in VMware vSphere, thin‑client/EUC solutions and Windows infrastructure.
• Solid knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, endpoint management, patching and hardening.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
• Familiarity with IGEL, Dell Wyse, 10ZiG, Intune, SCCM/MECM, Workspace ONE or PowerShell is advantageous.
• Current SC clearance preferred; willingness to undergo DV clearance if required.

What we offer

• £70,000–£80,000 base salary plus bonus and benefits.
