Innovation and R&D Manager

About the role

Menzies is seeking a Manager to lead a portfolio of R&D clients and claims, providing proactive tax advice, developing new business opportunities and supporting the growth of the Innovation and R&D team. You will work with a diverse client base across multiple industries, ensuring high‑quality R&D claim submissions to HMRC.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review R&D claims, AIFs and reports for HMRC submission.
• Communicate directly with clients to carry out claims, resolve queries and build relationships.
• Identify potential R&D claims and discuss opportunities with prospects.
• Prepare quotes, manage budgets and report financial performance to partners.
• Provide technical advice on innovation incentives and tax planning.
• Support partners and relationship managers on client matters and cross‑selling opportunities.
• Drive business development through networking, referrals and client recommendations.
• Coach and train junior staff in technical, client‑relationship and business‑development skills.

Required profile

• CTA/ACA qualified or equivalent, or qualified by industry experience.
• Technical background in STEM areas, either academic or industry‑based.
• Self‑starter with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of R&D tax legislation and rules.
• Expertise in relevant STEM technical domains.
