Interim Disrepair Surveyor – Lewisham Council

About the role

Lewisham Council is seeking an Interim Disrepair Surveyor to provide specialist technical expertise for its disrepair service. You will inspect residential properties, produce expert reports and ensure repairs meet legal and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect properties managed by Lewisham Council, leaseholders and private landlords for disrepair issues.
• Produce detailed reports with photographs, root‑cause analysis and recommendations using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
• Prepare specifications of required works and monitor progress, workmanship and health‑and‑safety compliance.
• Attend internal and external meetings, including with difficult residents and legal representatives.
• Conduct post‑inspection checks to verify completion and guarantee compliance.
• Enter all findings into the repairs management system within 24 hours of each visit.

Required profile

• Experience in building pathology, property inspection or housing disrepair investigations.
• Ability to assess risks on site and produce dynamic risk assessments.
• Familiarity with the National Housing Federation Schedule of Rates and related coding.
• Strong organisational skills to manage budgets, subcontractors and service standards.
