Interim Environmental Health Officer – Hybrid (3 days onsite)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join the Environmental Protection Team of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead on an interim basis. The role is hybrid, with three days on‑site and two days remote, and offers a competitive hourly rate.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate noise nuisance complaints and manage statutory nuisance cases.
• Monitor and report on air quality issues.
• Draft, serve and defend legal notices related to environmental protection.
• Prepare legal files and represent the council in court proceedings.
• Provide expert advice on planning and licensing consultations.
• Support enforcement actions across a range of environmental functions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in environmental protection or environmental health within a local authority.
• Strong knowledge of statutory nuisance, noise nuisance and air quality legislation.
• Proven record of conducting investigations and taking enforcement action.
• Experience in drafting and defending legal notices and attending court.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Additional experience in contaminated land, pollution prevention, planning or prosecution is advantageous.
