Interim Finance Manager for Charity

About the role

We are seeking an Interim Finance Manager to take ownership of the finances of a charity, supporting the leadership team and managing a small finance team. The role combines day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities with strategic budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting and process improvement over an initial six‑month period.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver monthly financial results with clear performance commentary and produce quarterly outlooks and the annual spending plan.
• Maintain accurate accounting records, oversee transaction processing, reconciliations and the asset register.
• Track restricted funds, monitor reserves and ensure compliance with charity accounting (SORP) requirements, VAT returns and Gift Aid submissions.
• Coordinate statutory accounts, external audit activity and manage cash‑flow forecasting, banking relationships and financial risk reporting.
• Lead and develop a small finance team, set priorities, provide coaching and drive improvements in systems and automation.

Required profile

• Ability to move between detailed accounting work and broader financial performance discussions.
• Understanding of charity finance, fund accounting, reporting obligations and financial governance.
• Strong communication skills to explain financial matters clearly and build productive relationships across the organisation.
• Proactive attitude towards identifying and implementing process improvements.
