Interim Finance & Payroll Manager (Hybrid)

About the role

Orka Financial is seeking an interim Finance & Payroll Manager to support an established technology services business in the Newbury area. The role combines hands‑on management accounting, financial reporting and full ownership of the payroll function. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to deliver accurate, timely information and help drive commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts with supporting commentary.
• Manage month‑end close, including journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare financial reports and provide insight into business performance.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Take ownership of payroll input, queries, deductions, pensions and related submissions.
• Liaise with internal teams to answer finance and payroll questions.
• Identify and implement process improvements and contribute to ad‑hoc finance projects.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or Financial Controller.
• Strong management‑accounting and month‑end reporting background.
• Practical experience of managing or processing payroll.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Proactive, organised and commercially aware approach.
• Part‑qualified accountants or candidates qualified by experience are welcome.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.

What we offer

• Daily rate of £200‑£250, dependent on experience.
• Hybrid working model – two days per week onsite at the Newbury‑area office.
