Interim Group Accountant – High Needs Block

About the role

Redbridge Council is seeking an experienced Interim Group Accountant to lead the High Needs Block finance function within its Education & Inclusion Directorate. This senior, high‑visibility position supports the transformation of SEND services and provides strategic financial guidance to senior leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial management, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting for Education, Inclusion and SEND services.
• Provide expert advice on High Needs Block funding, expenditure and commercial opportunities.
• Develop financial models, business cases and options appraisals for service redesign.
• Identify savings, manage financial risks and create recovery plans where needed.
• Oversee statutory accounts, external audit requirements and financial returns.
• Manage and develop the SEND Finance Team, ensuring high‑quality service delivery.
• Represent Redbridge Council at regional and national forums.

Required profile

• Qualified finance professional with extensive experience in public‑sector or education finance.
• Proven leadership and business‑partnering skills in a matrix environment.
• Strong analytical ability and strategic thinking.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
