Interim Head of Finance – Charity (12‑month contract)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to join an internationally recognised not‑for‑profit organisation on a 12‑month interim basis. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will steer the finance function through a period of change, ensuring robust financial management and high‑quality reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance function and manage the UK finance team, including remote staff.
• Produce consolidated management and statutory accounts.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting and long‑term financial planning.
• Manage restricted fund accounting, grant reporting and cost recovery.
• Ensure compliance with UK charity accounting standards and statutory requirements.
• Control cash flow, financial controls, audit processes and financial risk.
• Provide strategic financial insight to senior leadership and support decision‑making.
• Deliver financial oversight across multiple international programme offices.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with proven experience in the charity or not‑for‑profit sector.
• Strong knowledge of UK charity accounting legislation.
• Demonstrated experience managing a finance team, both on‑site and remotely.
• Experience handling restricted funding, donor‑funded projects and cost‑recovery models.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
