Interim Head of Finance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to take charge of the finance function for a well‑established charity in East Sussex during a period of organisational change. Reporting to the senior leadership team and the Board, you will own day‑to‑day finance operations while driving improvements and supporting strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance function and manage a small finance team.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
• Produce statutory accounts and support the annual audit.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Oversee cash‑flow management and long‑term financial planning.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to deliver commercial and strategic financial insight.
• Contribute to finance transformation and continuous process improvement.

Required profile

• Recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Proven experience leading a finance function within the charity or not‑for‑profit sector.
• Strong management accounting, financial reporting and budgeting experience.
• Excellent stakeholder management and business partnering skills.
• Hands‑on approach with ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery.
• Experience of supporting organisational change is advantageous.
