Interim Head of SEN (Special Educational Needs)

About the role

The Bromley Council is seeking an Interim Head of SEN to provide strategic and operational leadership for its Special Educational Needs (SEN) service. Working two days per week on‑site, you will champion inclusive education for children and young people with SEND and ensure high‑quality delivery across the council, schools and partner agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and communicate the SEND strategic vision and priorities.
• Lead the integrated delivery of SEN services, coordinating education, health and social care.
• Ensure service performance, quality assurance and compliance with national standards.
• Use business intelligence to drive service improvement and efficient resource use.
• Provide expert advice and reporting to the Director of Education and senior leadership.
• Oversee commissioning arrangements and joint commissioning structures.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior leadership within SEN or related public sector services.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑agency partnerships and drive strategic change.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation, reforms and best practice.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
